My Current Self Tanning Routine

Now that summer is sadly coming to an end (fall officially starts in two days) I thought it would be a perfect time to share my updated self tanning routine. I used to use tanning beds a lot, but have not been to one in over a year now because of self tanning at home!

There are a lot of great do-it-yourself sunless tanning products. But two of my absolute favorites are the Million Dollar Tan Mermaid Mousse Extreme and the St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse.

I find that both of these products give me the most natural looking bronze glow. If I had to choose... I do like the Mermaid Mousse a bit more. I think it gives a darker tan and also tends to last a bit longer on me. Plus, the St. Tropez option has a weird almost-green looking tint when first applied, so if you aren't using a mitt, you have to scrub the palms of your hands a lot more after applying. If you can get past that though, it really is beautiful once done setting.

However, the St. Tropez option can be easily purchased at your local Sephora/Ulta, which is why I started using it in the first place. Million Dollar Tan can only be bought online, and sometimes I just don't want to pay for shipping or wait for it to be shipped!

They both blend out very nicely and easily because of the mousse formula, and last about 5-7 days.

For 4oz bottles, each will cost you $32.00. Sometimes you can find Million Dollar Tan on Hautelook and they also offer sales every so often. Also, the Extreme version of Mermaid Mousse is a bit more expensive than the original formula...so if you aren't looking for as dark of a tan you can get it a little cheaper.

My typical routine will occur on a Wednesday night when I get home from work. I'll take a shower and be sure to exfoliate very well. Once out of the shower I'll apply lotion to my elbows, knees, hands and feet. I do this to the most dry places of the body to assure even application. These areas tend to allow the product to cling to them and look streaky...this will help prevent that.

Then I'll take either mousse and apply all over my body...then go to bed! In the morning I'll take a quick shower just lightly rinsing off, stopping the bronzing process. Then I'm all set!

What I do to make my tan last...

I will let my self tan go a few days, but then around day 3 I will apply my Jergens Natural Glow gradual tanning lotion. I find this really helps extend the wear of my tan and keep it even! This lotion does not get orange on me at all (I apply it once a day) and I have not found it to be streaky!

To give my tan a boost on days when I have a bit of skin showing I absolutely love to use the Beauty For Real TotalGlo bronzing lotion. It really just amplifies the tan and adds a bit of gorgeous shimmer. It honestly looks very healthy. I will apply it to my arms and legs with my hands but I'll use a flat top kabuki makeup brush to buff it into my chest area to get the most even application.

What are some of your favorite self tanning products?!

    1. Thank you very much!!! I have a slightly darker foundation to match me when I'm tan but for the most part I can fix foundation with highlight/contouring!
