Hard Candy Sheer Envy Primer Illuminating Review

I have been loving my HangoverRX primer from Too Faced but I really wanted to expand my horizons in the primer department. So while in Wal-Mart the other day I was quite intrigued by all the primer options from Hard Candy (a Wal-Mart only brand). They had 6 different primer options ranging from dark spot primer to color correcting. I, of course, went for the illuminating.

The website claims that this primer is  "A lightweight, illuminating, purple tinted, sheer primer that instantly provides a stunning, yet natural looking glow to all skin tones. Fills in pores and smoothes over imperfections for an overall airbrushed look!  Can be worn alone or under makeup."

And the packaging claims "This primer instantly illuminates skin with subtle glow. Lightweight primer creates a flawless canvas for smooth makeup application while extending the wear of makeup."

Now, I'll start off on a positive note and say that this primer does a nice job of smoothing out the skin-tone and creating an even base for foundation. I also think that it helps my makeup last longer.

However, the HUGE horrible crazy red flag is that "subtle glow" according to Hard Candy really means a full bottle of silver glitter flakes mixed in with great primer. This primer reminds me of some sort of clear sparkly lip gloss I used to use in middle school or even a sparkly nail polish! When I first put this on my hand to test the consistently I was instantly alarmed by the amount of glitter, but I decided I would try it out on my face and hopefully it would not be noticeable once blended into the skin. That is not the case. Even with foundation the glitter is still completely noticeable.

I would say, if you are not a 6th grade girl...stay away from this primer. But maybe reach for one of Hard Candy's other primer options. Because the formula really is great, I just think that the glitter in the Illuminating primer is just really unworkable.

I will be returning this one and exchanging it for the Hard Candy Perfecting Primer.

Have you tried any of the Hard Candy primers?
xoxo, Nikole
